19 Franklin Rear Rutherford, NJ

…will forever be a transitional space and, in a certain sense, a work in progress. The barrel truss reconstruction allows for wide-open floor space that encourages a flexibility of use and enjoyment. Storage for parked vehicles, fabrication tools, sporting/fitness equipment; it is a place filled with potential and purpose, frequented by an assortment of people and things. It is a Nest for incubation and growth, nestled away in an unsuspecting and often hard to find location that offers the protection needed for such delicate and experimental forays. The name comes from an interim period during which there was only a partial roof and no skylights, a bird made its nest in the wood planking of the ceiling. The bird flew in and out to bring food and warmth back to the nest. In some ways, the Nest serves the same purpose for all of us that have spent time in it – warmth and nourishment. Often asked “what is this space?” …That’s exactly what it is.
